Gordon Cunningham

Managing Director

“We’re engineers,” says Gordon of our approach to finding new ways to protect the things that matter to our clients. “I’m a nuts and bolts man.”

Gordon founded Cunningham back in 1969 when he spotted the need to provide covers for an agricultural trailer manufacturer and decided he was the man to make them.

Having carved out a niche serving the local farming industry, he then became among the first manufacturers of a new idea in the transport industry: curtainsides. As we now know, they would go on to be used on almost every heavy goods vehicle in the world.

That ethos of innovation has been engrained in our company from the outset and continues to this day.

Gordon continues to travel the world finding cutting-edge uses for covers in the emerging markets of the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Every trip is recorded by a pin on the world map that hangs above his desk – the countries are just about still visible beneath a sea of pins.

David Cunningham

General Manager

“We will talk to you from experience about what’s needed because there isn’t anything that we haven’t done before.”

David oversees the day-to-day running of Cunningham and he embodies what we’re all about.

Not only does he have the workings of the company in his blood, his training in mechanical and manufacturing engineering enables him to constantly look for groundbreaking yet practical solutions to our clients’ problems.

A lifetime of experience around the business means he will probably already have the perfect textile for your project in mind after the briefest of introductory chats, while his engineering brain often spearheads our work to create a custom cover that is precisely tailored to your requirements.

That in-depth knowledge of our industry and commitment to finding carefully engineered solutions to your problems is at the heart of everything we do.

Trevor Hamilton

Sales Manager

Trevor is on hand to chat through your requirements, provide some feedback on how we can help you and give general pointers on meeting the aims of your project.

He is often our ambassador on the road, visiting clients to discuss their plans and get the ball rolling towards production.

Trevor has particular expertise in the transport, oil and gas industries.

Stephen Jamison

Customer Liaison

Stephen will help to flesh out your plans into a project we can take forward together. That might include talking you through possible materials and design ideas, or even visiting you on site to measure up for your cover.

He has carved out niches in the quarrying, transport and agricultural sectors, although his knowledge extends far beyond those specialisms.

David Crooks

Production Manager

David is the person who endeavours to turn back the clock for the project you needed yesterday. He oversees the production of every job of every size to make sure each one is completed on time and to your specification.

His considerable experience allows him to plan a production schedule that runs like clockwork, which means we can tell you accurately when your order will be ready.

Since joining the company in 1982, David has built-up a wealth of knowledge of what can be achieved and how to achieve it, which makes him an invaluable part of the Cunningham design process.

He knows the workings of our machinery inside-out and uses that knowledge to push the equipment to the very limits of its capabilities to produce innovative, bespoke textile covers for our clients.

Peter Smith

Graphics and Branding

Peter ensures your project hits all its marketing objectives. He will work either independently or alongside your in-house branding team to achieve the look you want.

His eye for design is complemented by his knowledge of the quirks of designing and printing for textile covers.

Big-name drinks manufacturers, logistics companies and telecoms firms are among those Peter has helped through the process.

Paul Thompson

Designer

Paul is responsible for bringing your project to life before we’ve even started work on it. A trained animator, he uses his computer-aided design skills to enable you to see what the finished article will look like from the comfort of your own desk.

Whether he is working from precise measurements or plotting out an initial concept, Paul’s work will help you to visualise what we’re working towards.

Once you’ve given the go-ahead, Paul converts the designs into a detailed drawing, which is used by the production team as they manufacture your cover.
